What We Award


History of the Terry Ni
Scholarship Programs
From 2010 to 2012, the Ni’s offered the Family Scholarship through the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) for qualified high school seniors planning to pursue engineering studies.
In 2012, Terry Ni initiated the Funds for Restoration and Enhancement of Earth (FREE) scholarship program. From 2012 to 2020, she awarded 16 $2,000 FREE scholarships through the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers (WSPE) and administered by the Engineers Foundation of Wisconsin (EFW).
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
- Academic record of success in advanced mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics courses, balanced with English composition and literature
- Cumulative academic grade point average of 3.6 or greater
- With regard to the objective of a minimum composite ACT score of 32, the evaluation board members may use discretion to consider candidates with composite ACT scores less than 32 in cases where a candidate exhibits distinctive, compelling, and relevant additional qualifications such as, but not limited to, outstanding performance and demonstrated leadership in extra curricular activities and superior academic performance in relevant technical coursework that supports the expectation of successful engineering studies.
- Record of balanced extracurricular activities demonstrating interests in addition to academics
- Well-composed, articulate, one-page essay describing personal motives for pursuing engineering studies and their vision of future career goals

The Terry Ni Engineering Scholarship awards merit-based funding to outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate strong academic achievement and a sincere interest in engineering.
Established through WSPE and administered by the Engineers Foundation of Wisconsin, the program supports students pursuing both traditional and emerging engineering fields.
